Tire makers say pressure drops about one PSI for every ten degrees, so the tire light loves cold mornings. Both of these cordless Fanttik inflators reach 150 PSI, have presets, and stop on their own at your set pressure. The difference is size and speed: Fanttik rates the APEX for SUVs, and the Pro for sedans, motorcycles and bikes. On Fanttik's own test, taking a 25-inch tire from 30 to 35 PSI, the APEX takes about 35 seconds and the Pro about 70.

The X9 APEX is the all-rounder. Fanttik says one charge fills four car tires from flat, or handles about 27 quick top-ups. It doubles as a USB-C power bank, the built-in charging cable works as a carry strap, there's a light with a red warning strobe for roadside stops, and the base stores the nozzle adapters. Fanttik says it has the same specs as the X8 APEX, which is where the long-term reviews are: New York Magazine's Strategist inflated ten tires in a cold snap with about a quarter of the battery left, and Cars For Real found it within half a PSI of a calibrated gauge after a year.

The X9 Pro is the compact one, just under a pound, about half the APEX. Its smart hose turns it on when you pull it out, and it switches off after a few idle minutes. Ultimate Motorcycling called it their favorite inflator so far: set to 32 PSI, it measured 32.1. The trade-off is a smaller battery, no power bank and a dimmer light.

The honest catch: the hose is short, about ten inches on the APEX, so you'll kneel by the tire, and both are loud. Ultimate Motorcycling lists the X9 Pro's operating range as 41 to 113°F, so keep either in the cabin or bring it inside rather than leaving it in a frozen trunk. Neither is meant for big off-road tires.

Our verdict: for most drivers, get the X9 APEX. It's about twice as fast, rated for SUVs, and a better roadside kit. If you ride, or want the lightest pump you'll actually carry, the X9 Pro is the better buy.
